Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use my out-of-network benefits?

Yes, of course! If you have out-of-network insurance benefits, you are welcome to use them. I am happy to submit claims on your behalf (via a company called Thrizer) or provide you with a monthly superbill, so you can coordinate with your insurance company directly.

How do I know if I have out-of-network benefits?

If you have out-of-network benefits, your insurance company will typically reimburse you for 60-80% of the cost of each session after you've met your deductible.

You can use the Thrizer Benefits Calculator above to get an instant estimate of your out-of-network coverage, including your deductible and amount remaining on deductible, as well as an estimated reimbursement amount post-deductible.

I'd also be happy to check your benefits for you! Just make sure to have your insurance card handy, with your Member ID, during our free intro call.

Or, if you prefer, you can confirm the benefits of your health insurance provider directly. I recommend asking the following questions:

How many mental health sessions per calendar year does my insurance plan cover?

Are virtual outpatient mental health visits (teletherapy) covered by my plan?

Is a referral from an in-network provider or a primary care physician needed to see someone out-of-network?

What is the reimbursement amount per therapy session?

What is my out-of-network deductible for outpatient mental health visits?

How much of my deductible has been met this year?

How do I obtain reimbursement for therapy with an out-of-network provider?

How do I actually use my out-of-network benefits?

Your out-of-network benefits are usually pretty straightforward to use. We have two options:

I partner with a company, Thrizer, who can submit claims to your insurance company on your behalf for a small fee. After you meet your deductible, you can decide whether or not you want to pay for our sessions in full. You have the option to either pay in full and wait for reimbursement or simply pay your co-insurance. Thrizer can cover the rest of our session cost for you while they wait for reimbursement from your insurance company.

Or if you prefer to deal with your insurance company yourself, I will provide you with a monthly superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. You will be responsible for paying for each session in full at time of appointment.

We can discuss these options in more detail on an intro call and see what works best for you!

What forms of payment do you accept?

I will ask for a credit card, HSA, or FSA card to keep on file before we begin therapy. I accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. If you cannot provide a credit card, I also accept Zelle. Since I'm fully virtual, I cannot accept checks or cash.

What if I'm not sure I can afford therapy long-term?

This is a very real and valid concern. During your free 15-minute consultation call, we can talk openly about fees, priorities, pacing, and what feels realistic for you. We can do short-term therapy for a specific concern or goal. Therapy doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing to be meaningful.

If you're still not sure you can afford therapy, I can provide referrals to clinicians who might be more affordable.

If you're hoping to find an in-network provider, www.psychologytoday.com and www.zocdoc.com, are great resources.

Can you work with clients anywhere in the USA or the world?

No, therapists can only provide services in the states they are licensed. I am only licensed to work with residents of New York and California. You must live in one of these states in order for us to work together.

Do you work with men?

Yes! I know there are also "good boys" out there too that learned to put up a facade and keep their emotions suppressed. I have only niched down to women for marketing purposes, but if you are a man, and you feel that I might be a good fit for your healing journey, please reach out.

What if I'm not spiritual? Do I have to be a certain religion to work with you?

As long as you believe in intuition or "gut feelings" then we can work together, regardless of your spiritual or religious background. Some people believe that intuition is messages received from a higher being, such as the Universe, God, Allah, or whomever you believe in. Others believe that intuition comes from the self. I am accepting of all spiritual and religious backgrounds. I try to integrate your beliefs into the treatment.

What is holistic therapy?

Holistic therapy is a comprehensive approach to mental health treatment that addresses the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. Unlike traditional "talk" therapy, which often focuses solely on psychological aspects, holistic therapy recognizes that mental health is interconnected with physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Techniques such as mindfulness, self-compassion, yoga, and nervous system regulation, help to enhance the mind-body connection, helping clients to manage anxiety, stress, burnout, and other emotional challenges. Approaches like EMDR and breathwork help clients release emotional "baggage" from past traumas, so you are better in-tune with your spirituality, or intuition, so you have a clear sense of how to move forward. Holistic therapy also focuses on prevention and integrates various therapeutic approaches to help clients develop healthier coping mechanisms and a deeper understanding of themselves. It's an active approach to therapy that will require your engagement both within and outside of session.

I've tried therapy before and it didn't help. How are you different?

Many clients show up on my virtual doorstep after feeling stuck or disappointed by previous therapy experiences. In most of these circumstances, prior therapy was traditional "talk therapy." While it can feel good to vent and have someone offer objective insights and perspective, talk therapy has not been shown to be effective long term. Furthermore, talk therapy only focuses on the psychological aspects of your presenting concerns. At Clairsentience Holistic Therapy, I take a holistic approach, addressing mind, body, emotional, and spiritual aspects of your issues. I also use trauma-informed approaches, such as EMDR, that gets at the root of your negative patterns to truly heal and create lasting change.

What if I'm not sure we are a good fit?

Before scheduling a therapy session, I do a free 15 minute intro call with all potential new clients. This gives us the chance to get to know each other. Here’s what you can expect:

I’ll ask you about why you’re seeking therapy

I’ll tell you a bit about myself and my approach as a therapist

You can ask me any questions that I didn’t cover

We’ll talk about rates, insurance, availability, etc.

What if I don't know what I want to work on yet?

That’s completely okay. You don’t need a clear agenda before starting. Therapy is often the space where clarity emerges. We’ll work together to understand what’s been coming up for you and identify what feels most important to focus on.

It's my first time in therapy, what can I expect?

If we decide to proceed with an intake session after our initial phone consultation, I will send you intake paperwork to complete prior to our first session through a secure portal called Simple Practice. I will also send you a HIPAA-compliant video link via Simple Practice. Just login to the video appointment 5-minutes before our session is scheduled to begin.

Our goal for the first session is to take a comprehensive assessment of your presenting issues and background to better understand what brought you to therapy. Sometimes, getting the full picture can take a few sessions. However, I always reserve time at the end of the first session to provide you with some education about treatment approaches and options, and for you to ask questions. After the first session, if it still feels like a good fit, we enter a therapeutic alliance and I officially take you on as a client.

The therapeutic process is collaborative and interactive. We work together to figure out the best treatment plan using my expertise on therapeutic and healing approaches, and your expertise on you and your life. You can always provide feedback about what is and isn't working. Therapy can be very active, involving guidance and homework, or more reflective, allowing you space to explore and process at your own pace. The approach will be tailored to be the most beneficial for you.

How long does therapy last?

Sessions are typically 50-minutes long. However, some clients request and/or need longer sessions, such as 90-minutes, or intensives that last multiple hours, depending on the treatment goals and approach.

Length of therapy varies depending on treatment goals, current stressors, barriers, and motivation for change. My approach is recorey-oriented. This menas you won't have to be in therapy forever. Many of my clients find that they've met their goals in 3-6 months. I also have clients who choose to remain in therapy for much longer; they have seen improvements and still really enjoy having ongoing support and a place to process their thoughts and feelings each week.

How often will we meet?

I meet with the majority of my clients on a weekly basis. I ask that all new clients commit to meeting weekly (typically at the same time each week), for at-least the first 6 weeks. This will allow us to start off on a strong foot, so you can start seeing progress right away.

I may recommend that we increase or decrease the frequency of sessions to best meet your needs.

What if I start therapy and realize I'm not ready?

You're always in control of the therapeutic process. Starting therapy doesn't lock you into anything. Even a couple of sessions can be clarifying. It's ok to pause or revisit therapy when the timing feels right. It's ok to pause one goals and focus on another. It's ok to use therapy as a way to help you get ready for the deeper, emotional work.
